The “Factory on Wheels” concept of RockHouse

Updated: Jun 30, 2020

Rockhouse International building parts are manufactured by mobile forming machines located at the construction site.

Today there is a better way. Due to the ingenuity of three mobile machines (protected by worldwide patents and patents pending) modern structures can now be erected more safely, more rapidly and more economically.

The RockHouse system of construction creates a steel frame that is three times stronger than traditional builds while avoiding the need for employing expensive, skilled labour.

The concept is based around three machine-formed repeatable parts, none of which weigh more than 16kg. The beams, spreaders and columns are formed from heavy-duty galvanised sheet steel and then bolted together like a type of mechanical play set, fondly remembered by the child in all of us.

These components are manufactured efficiently on the worksite at ground level, further reducing costs such as those associated with operating at heights. There are no bulky transport costs involved and raw materials are readily available.

"...an efficient system that owes its cost-effectiveness to the successful utilisation of three mobile manufacturing machines, the wizards behind the magic."

The beams and spreaders are assembled into 900mm x 900mm grids to form floors, ceilings and rooftops. Columns are bolted vertically between floor and ceiling grids to form walls. Additionally at intermediate floors, columns are overlapped for maximum structural rigidity.

The three different mobile machines responsible for producing the parts are towable, computer-controlled and simplistic in concept while boasting advanced technical capabilities in reality. Amazingly, simple flat sheet materials are loaded in one end and ready-to-assemble finished segments are ejected from the other.

Sophisticated component forming machinery that can be towed by trucks, tractors and other prime movers.

The resultant parts are recyclable, resistant to concerns such as termites, moisture and water while also being tremendously attractive for builders constructing in cyclone or earthquake prone regions.

The valuable machines are lockable for security reasons and enclosed with weatherproof features allowing for use in all environments and worldwide climates.

Rockhouse International has developed an efficient system that owes its cost-effectiveness to the successful utilisation of three mobile manufacturing machines, the wizards behind the magic.
